Photographing Shaquillah
After a very welcome Christmas break it was good to get back to working with a model again
Shaquillah and I had worked together once before, a natural light shoot in London, and we were both very happy with the images so it was good to meet up again
Our second shoot was in January, we very wisely chose to work indoors at a local hall as it was freezing outside!
We kept things clean with a classic white backdrop and various lights, and played around with a few long silks to see what we could come up with
The Initial Set Up
White cloth backdrop
Main light Godox Ad600 Pro II
Second light AD600BM with red gel aimed at the backdrop
Third light Ad200 with stripbox
Fourth light Ad200 with orange gel aimed at model from behind
Our initial images were fairly straightforward, just to make sure the lighting was how I wanted it
1/160 f 9 iso 100
For the first set of images Shaquillah wore a yellow dress and I’d already removed the gels from the lights except for the red gel on the background
Three lights were used, the key light in front, and two rim lights either side and behind Shaquillah adding light to her arms, and one side of her face
I love having two edge lights as in this image
We added a yellow silk for some interest and movement
1/160 f 9 iso 100
1/200 f 8 iso 100
Our second look was Shaquillah in a green dress
For this I put a blue gel on the background and kept the other lights the same
Within the studio we found a small area with some coloured lights
The lights were very low and wouldn’t show up in the image without using a very high iso, so I placed a light with an orange gel in front of Shaquillah , and a light with a blue gel behind her
I opened the aperture to f2.8 to blur the background
1/200 f 2.8 iso 200
1/200 f 8 iso 100
There was a chiar so why not use it …
Another coloured scarf, another look …

Removing most of the colour gave a different look
